Our Philosophy
Assisted Recovery Center of Georgia, Inc. was started in 2000 by Terry Bruce after 12-step programs, alcohol detox, intensive inpatient, and other traditional detox centers failed to help a member of her family recover from alcohol addiction. While searching the internet for other treatments, Ms. Bruce came across the studies by the University of Pennsylvania addictions researcher Joseph Volpicelli MD, PhD. He pioneered Naltrexone's use in treated alcohol addiction, which led to its FDA approval for its use in alcoholism in 1994. Dr. Volpicelli discovered that Naltrexone significantly reduces the cravings for alcohol, which allowed the person in recovery to focus more on his or her recovery.
Our opiate and alcohol detox programs are as pain free as we can offer using the latest medical technologies. As we would not want to see our husbands, wives, children, and loved ones suffer, we go through great lengths to make our clients equally as comfortable.
Our inpatient programs are not "lock downs." We offer private suites from area hotels, which allow you to come and go as you please. Or, you may have a favorite hotel in Savannah from which you would like to receive our services. This form of lodging increases our clients' level of anonymity concerning treatment. Nothing in your records would reveal anything other than you had a relaxing vacation in beautiful Savannah, Georgia.
While many programs suggest that you give up your work and relationships, we encourage them. It simply does not make any sense to be forced to give up positive facets of your life when trying to eliminate the negative ones. So, bring your spouse, bring your family members, bring your dog...whatever makes you the most comfortable during your path toward sobriety.
And finally, the one part of our philosophy that separates us from most programs is that we put the onus of relapse on ourselves and not our clients. You came to us for help, and we promise that you will leave our program healthier, happier, and for the better.
