The Pride Committee of North Carolina's mission statement reflects the fact that despite many social, political and economic gains that have been made by individuals and institutions in various LGBT communities throughout North Carolina, much work still needs to be done. At the same time, however, we understand the need to celebrate our victories and accomplishments.
Our mission is:
-
to promote unity and visibility among lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgendered people
-
to promote a positive image through programs and public activities that foster an awareness of our past struggles
-
to be recognized as an important and talented sector of our diverse state.
-
to support and encourage HIV/AIDS education, breast cancer awareness and basic health education
"Pride: self-respect, self-esteem and gratification arising from association with something laudable."
Pride is what we have in ourselves, and like so many things in life, becomes more meaningful when shared, and when enjoyed in the company of others.
NCPrideFest 2003 will be a place to talk about how LGBT communities can work for social justice and join together in a festive, celebratory space. Inclusiveness and acceptance are the real gifts that we give to one another when we participate. Through our participation, we share a part of ourselves. Please respond to our calls for volunteers - get involved!
